FIGHTING CORRUPTION
An open letter to Sonia Gandhi
Let's not dwarf the Issue, please
![]() Sonia Gandhi
The all- expected witch hunt
has begun... largest
democracy in the world can
boast of victimising those
who dare raise their voice...unruffled
and strong. Stifling any movement
that threatens the very existence of
the all powerful is name of the game
that has been played over centuries
but should we play it in the name of a
pious word like democracy? Should
governance defeat itself?
The upright and brave fear nobody and nothing...their spine is made of benevolent convictions and threat of onslaught, whatever its nature, goes a long way in further strengthening it. Does it not make more sense to respect all viewpoints and resolve the problem through mature negotiation? Can’t one well- meaning Indian trust the other equally wellmeaning one? Given the democratic framework, can the government and the civil society survive without each other? Can issues of national importance be reduced to mere ego games? Are we running a race to outwit and victimise each other? Should our endeavour not lie in collectively putting our best foot forward as Nehru or people of his rare stature and magnanimity would have? Don’t the aspirations of our people come above everything else? Does our country not come first? Team Anna comprises some extraordinary people of credibility and intelligence... the ruling party too boasts of any number of people with fine intellect...they all, I suspect, are striving for India to be a better place to live in...Corruption-free... truly free... then, why the conflict? Why is one side more interested in finding skeletons in the other’s cupboard? Can any one single person put his hand on his heart and say, I am the supreme God - Indomitable, unbeatable, invincible, flawless and perfect to the core? No one can make that tall a claim. It was not for nothing that Mahatma Gandhi experimented with truth to become a better person...his focus lay in personal evolution that directly impacted the growth of the national movement. ![]() Team Anna
The Mahatma’s strength stemmed
from within...he was aware of the
simple theory of cause and effect more you work on self-improvement,
better chances you have of truly
serving others, without any ulterior
motives. What we lack is the will to
work on improving ourselves
constantly... growth is stumped when
the chair becomes all powerful... it
does not permit you to walk the
ground anymore... it expects people
to pay their obedience to it
depending upon the nature and the
appetite of the seat you occupy.
The most sought after throne ultimately dethrones even the most powerful but a human being, rich in values, connected to the reality of the common man and his struggle, can never be dethroned for he belongs to the soil, to the masses, his heart beats for the love of his country... he alone is the king who cares for his people. My appeal, as a proud citizen of this great country, is to remain focussed on eradicating corruption...I appeal to both sides not to mix politics with a drive that took the nation by a happy storm i.e. to rid India of corruption... political mileage of any kind will ultimately dwarf a noble cause... corruption is an evil that all political parties and masses at large need to fight at all levels... it has nothing to do with one single party or individual. For all you know, the Prime Minister may now rise to the occasion and decide to lead the cause of a corruption-free India giving credence to the voice and aspirations of millions who braved the heat, rain and hunger to join a man of simple ways in good old Anna. May our country produce more patriots and more humanitarians. Given the democratic
framework, can the
government and the civil
society survive without
each other? Can issues of
national importance be
reduced to mere ego
games? Are we running a
race to outwit and
victimise each other?
Should our endeavour not
lie in collectively putting
our best foot forward as
Nehru or people of his rare
stature and magnanimity
would have? Don’t the
aspirations of our people
come above everything
else? Does our country not
come first?
I, for one, feel that the Congress
leadership can join hands with the
progressive anti-corruption
movement to uproot the rot that has
set in to become fodder for the
corrupt termites, eating into the very
fibre of our existence. Sonia Gandhi,
hopes are pinned on you...you can
turn the tide with your nobility for
the betterment of the country you so
dearly love.
Let’s remain focussed on the issue of corruption and not politicize it any further. | ||
