In your piece on the tradition of arbitrary divorce (triple talaq) you have rightly argued ours is an age of science and reason . Human consciousness has attained a stage that demands gender justice in our society . There is absolutely no justification for the continuance of any archaic personal laws . The Government must do the needful.
It was encouraging to read the interviews of our former Army Chief General Shankar Roy Chowdhury and Major General Vinod Saighal in this issue of your magazine . The General said that India could crush Pakistan if there was any war. The Indian Army must launch more attacks in the PoK to protect the country against the terrorist attacks and aggression. Saighal praised Prime Minister Modi for backing the surgical strike.

Ladakhis must get their due

Prime Minister Narendra Modi must consider the memorandum the people of Ladakh have recently submitted to him . The memorandum demands a Union Territory status for Ladakh . The heads representing the Buddhist communities, the Shia community, the Sunni community and the Christian community Leh have made this appeal to the Prime Minister .
of Ladakh dates back to 930 A.D. when several small, sovereign principalities outlying the Western Himalayas were integrated by Lha- Chen-Palgigon. Ladakh as an independent kingdom gained political status during 15th 16th century when the Namgyal dynasty came into power. It is absolutely erroneous to equate Kashmir valley with the rest of the State. Ladakh constitutes 69.6 % of the total J&K territory with its own cultural identity .
Ladakhis fought back the Pakistanis and the Chinese who made frequent bids of conquer our land in 1948, 1962, 1965, 1971 and 1999 wars. The jawans of Ladakh Scouts played an exemplary role in decisively foiling the enemy's misadventures. They must be given their due .
